Martha Emrey – Unit 165 2025 Goodwill Nominee

Martha Emrey
KINDNESS MATTERS
The ACBL Goodwill Committee promotes ethics, inclusivity, and junior programs, and this year, Unit 165 honors Martha Emrey for her dedication to bridge and unwavering kindness.
Martha’s journey began in 2015 when she attended a “Learn Bridge in a Day” class. Since then, she has been deeply involved in helping others improve, organizing study sessions, and even signing for deaf players despite being a beginner herself.
Beyond playing, Martha tirelessly supports the bridge community—cleaning up after games, assisting with beginner lessons, and co-chairing Non-Life Master Sectionals. She maintains tournament resources, helps match Pro-Am partners, and attends board meetings.
A former librarian, Martha is a go-to resource for bridge questions and is currently organizing the club’s library of donated books. Always gracious and fair at the table, she never criticizes her partners and values learning over winning.
Bridge needs more Martha’s—but there is only one Martha Emrey.
The Goodwill nominee embodies the highest standards of goodwill, sportsmanship, and volunteerism, selflessly giving their time to promote and enhance bridge. They exhibit good manners and strive to make the game more enjoyable for everyone. This individual maintains an exemplary demeanor at the bridge table—warm and friendly. Upon selection, they automatically become a member of the District 7 Goodwill Committee.
